Day 1 – Cape Town to Cederberg Region

Bid farewell to Cape Town with a final, breathtaking view of Table Mountain across the shimmering waters of Table Bay. No South African road trip is complete without pausing at a traditional padstal – charming farm stalls brimming with homemade preserves, bakes, and local delicacies. As we ascend into the rugged Cederberg, jagged peaks rise dramatically against the sky, cloaked in fynbos and dotted with citrus orchards. This is the exclusive home of the iconic Rooibos tea, harvested from the wild bushes that thrive only on these sun-drenched slopes.

Day 2 – Cederberg to Gariep (Orange) River, Namaqualand

The arid beauty of Namaqualand unfolds as we venture north into true desert territory. Between July and September, this usually barren landscape explodes into a riot of wildflowers – a world-famous spectacle. Year-round, the surreal desert vistas captivate. After a brief supply stop in Springbok, we reach the lush banks of the Gariep River for a tranquil evening beside Namibia’s life-giving waterway.

Day 3 – Gariep River to Fish River Canyon

Begin the day with an optional half-day canoe adventure on the serene Gariep, gliding past riverine forests and rocky cliffs. After lunch we head inland to Africa’s largest canyon – the awe-inspiring Fish River Canyon. A scenic walk along the rim reveals dizzying views of this geological masterpiece carved over millennia. We end the day in Keetmanshoop beneath a canopy of stars.

Day 4 – Quiver Tree Forest, Giants Playground & Namib Desert

A long but rewarding drive then carries us deeper into the Namib, where golden grasslands slowly yield to towering red dunes, revealing the many faces of Namibia’s ancient desert.

Day 5 – Sossusvlei & Namib-Naukluft National Park

Rise early to catch the dunes at their most magical. Climb the iconic Dune 45 as the first light paints the desert in fiery hues. After breakfast, 4x4 shuttles transport us deeper into the dune sea to explore the blinding white clay pans of Sossusvlei and the haunting, skeletal trees of Deadvlei. We conclude with a visit to the surprising Sesriem Canyon before returning to camp under a brilliant desert sky.

Day 6 – Namib Desert to Swakopmund

A fascinating morning walk with a local desert expert reveals the hidden life of the Namib – from ancient welwitschia plants to tiny creatures perfectly adapted to this harsh world. We pause at the Tropic of Capricorn for photos before descending from the dunes to the cool Atlantic coast and the charming German-influenced town of Swakopmund.

Day 7 – Swakopmund (Free Day)

A full day to experience Namibia’s adventure capital at your own pace. Choose from sandboarding, skydiving, quad-biking, marine cruises, or simply wander the palm-lined streets, browse curio markets, and indulge in some of Africa’s finest coffee and German pastries.

Day 8 – Swakopmund to Brandberg

Travel north along the wild Skeleton Coast where desert meets the Atlantic. Photograph the colourful seaside settlement of Wlotskabaken and marvel at the delicate lichen fields – some of the oldest living organisms on Earth. In the afternoon we reach the majestic Brandberg massif and undertake a guided ±2-hour return hike through the Tsisab Gorge to view the famous 2,000-year-old “White Lady” rock painting (hike may take place evening or following morning).

Day 9 – Brandberg to Etosha National Park Area

Journey toward one of Africa’s greatest wildlife sanctuaries – Etosha National Park. We settle into our accommodation on the park boundary, perfectly positioned for tomorrow’s game-viewing adventures.

Day 10 – Etosha National Park

A full day exploring the vast Etosha Pan and its surrounding waterholes in our overland truck. Each corner turned holds the promise of spectacular sightings – elephants, lions, endangered black rhino, and countless antelope against the shimmering white expanse of the pan.

Day 11 – Etosha National Park

Day 12 – Etosha to Divundu (Kavango River)

We leave Etosha’s white plains behind and travel east toward the lush Kavango River, entering the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area – one of the world’s largest protected zones spanning five countries.

Day 13 – Divundu & Kavango River

Day 14 – Divundu to Maun, Botswana

Cross into Botswana and travel to Maun – the gateway to the Okavango Delta. Prepare for two nights away from the truck as we head into one of the world’s most pristine wilderness areas.

Transfer into open 4x4 vehicles and venture deep into the Okavango Delta region. Early risers may enjoy an optional scenic flight over the Delta’s labyrinth of waterways (time/weather permitting). In the late afternoon, experience the timeless tradition of a mokoro (dug-out canoe) excursion as the sun sets over papyrus-lined channels (may take place Day 15 or 16).

Immerse yourself in one of the most magical experiences on Earth: a sunset mokoro excursion deep in the heart of the Okavango Delta.

Picture this:

The fierce African afternoon heat begins to soften as the golden light slants across the floodplain. You step down from the 4×4 into a hidden lagoon where a flotilla of sleek fibreglass mokoros waits, each one gleaming like polished jade against the water. A local poler – barefoot, calm-eyed, and impossibly graceful – welcomes you with a wide smile and helps you settle onto low, cushioned seats. The canoe is so close to the water that your fingertips can trail through the warm, gin-clear shallows as you push off.

Then silence. Absolute, velvet silence, broken only by the gentle splash of the ngashi (the long wooden pole) and the occasional liquid call of an African jacana tiptoeing across the lily pads.

You glide.

Reeds part like theatre curtains, revealing secret channels lined with emerald papyrus that towers above your head. The air smells of water mint and sun-warmed grass. Painted reed frogs – no bigger than your thumbnail and bright as jewels – cling to the stems, chiming like tiny glass bells. A malachite kingfisher, a streak of electric blue and orange, explodes from a reed and hovers, hummingbird-like, before diving with a silver splash.

Ahead, a small herd of red lechwe stands knee-deep in the shallows, their lyre-shaped horns catching the late light. They watch you with mild curiosity, unafraid, because your mokoro makes no sound at all. In the distance, an elephant matriarch leads her family to the water’s edge; you drift within thirty metres as calves spray each other, trunks curling like playful snakes.

As the sun sinks, the sky ignites. First peach, then tangerine, then a fierce crimson that reflects in a million shattered mirrors across the flooded plains. The water turns to molten gold. Your poler pauses, resting the pole across the mokoro, letting you simply float in the stillness. Fish eagles cry from dead leadwood trees. A hippo grunts somewhere far off, a deep, contented rumble that vibrates through the hull. The first star appears.

For a fleeting half-hour the entire Delta seems to hold its breath with you. There is no engine, no road, no rush – only the ancient rhythm of pole against water and the quiet beating of your own heart.

When you finally turn back, Venus blazes low in the indigo sky and the mokoros slip home in single-file, silhouettes against the afterglow. You step onto dry land feeling as if you’ve been allowed into a secret the world forgot still existed.

This is not just a boat ride.

This is the Okavango Delta whispering its soul directly into yours.

Day 16 – Moremi Game Reserve (Khwai Area)

A full day exploring the renowned Moremi Game Reserve in open 4x4 vehicles. Traverse floodplains, mopane forests, and lagoons in search of lion, leopard, wild dog, elephant herds, and an incredible variety of birdlife. Return to camp at dusk to share stories around the fire.

Day 17 – Khwai to Nata

Depart at dawn in open 4x4s, rejoining the Nomad truck in Maun before continuing across the vast Makgadikgadi salt pans region to Nata.

Ample time for optional adrenaline activities, curio shopping, or simply soaking in the spectacle. This evening, join an optional farewell dinner in town.
